Whilst you’re certain to recognise many of the gemstones we use to craft our jewellery pieces, there’s many more you may not be familiar with. In this blog post, we introduce some of these lesser-known gemstones as well as share their benefits.

Agate

The ocean green colouring of the agate stone is certain to take your breath away. The star of the show in our Oriole Ring, this stone is a part of the chalcedony quartz family. Agate comes in a variety of colours and patterns, many of which are banded due to the layers and layers of deposits that make up the stone.

Historically, agate is used as a protective stone, and as a result, was carried as an amulet by people in many civilisations. Its strength also cemented its use on seals for important documents during these early days.

Agate is celebrated for its soothing and stress-relieving qualities, with the stone used to bring harmony to the mind, body and soul, as well as help you breathe deeper and more easily.

Citrine

Bright, beautiful and truly breath-taking, the citrine stone is a statement, particularly when worn in our unique, barnacle clustered Arwen Ring. 

Whilst seen here in a brownish-orange – which is unique to the Madeira citrine stone – citrine is available in a wide range of shades, including pale to bright yellow. Its vivid colouring is triggered by the trace of iron within its structure.

Often described as ‘vitamin C for the soul’, citrine is known for promoting positivity, optimism and joy as Energy Muse details:

Ametrine

This stunning two-tone stone is another eye-catching gem used in our collection. In fact, you may have seen it in our Cordelia Ring.

As its name suggests, ametrine is a mix of the golden shades of citrine and the purple hue of amethyst, but this stone is very much a rare gift in its own right. Ametrine is after all only sourced commercially from a single mine in Bolivia, and each gem recovered sees the colours blend and contrast in their own unique way.

Spiritually, ametrine combines amethyst’s problem-solving with citrine’s enriching powers to create an incredible healing stone. It’s well regarded for promoting harmony, quashing negative feelings and enhancing optimism in the toughest of situations.

Green quartz

Our Selkie Ring contains another lesser-known stone and one that we simply love using here at Dainty. 

The quartz stone is available in a plethora of shades, making it the most versatile gemstone on the market and the most popular on the planet. As well as being seen throughout our range, quartz was used to create crystal balls and bowls in ancient times.

Many stones are a part of the quartz family, including previously mentioned amethyst and ametrine, but the stone used in our Selkie Ring is green quartz.

With its fine clarity and intense colouring, green quartz is a beautiful addition to any jewellery collection. It’s also said to unlock some incredible healing effects, turning negatives into positives, attracting success, and stimulating creativity.
