Here at Dainty London, we are open and honest about how our jewellery is designed and crafted. By putting quality first and prioritising earth-friendly materials, we are able to create sustainable, beautifully designed, fairly priced pieces that really are accessible to all. For those of you interested in digging into the details of our unique design process, the following blog post is certain to be essential reading.
Let us take you from inspiration and sourcing to production and the details of those final collections to reveal exactly how our pieces come to life.
The inspiration
Our jewellery pieces are the product of a unique blend of personal heritage and sustainable luxury. The designs themselves are deeply rooted in Jade’s Cornish childhood, with the strong influence of maritime heritage through her fisherman father there for all to see.
Each and every collection has a connection to the coast in one way or another, from the maritime elements seen in the Zennor Collection to the Victorian vintage ocean themes of 1763. There are other themes at work too, just look closely at the celestial motifs of the AÉRÅ Collection, the celebration of Greek mythology in our Goddess pieces, and the earthy, English countryside inspired charm of Grain.
Capturing the very magic and wonder of childhood memories is what started Jade on her jewellery making journey in the first place, and this continues to be an inspiration even as the Dainty brand grows.
The philosophy
As well as being profoundly passionate about combining British luxury with coastal heritage, our focus on sustainable and ethical design principles is our promise to you and the planet.
We exclusively use earth-friendly materials, including recycled silver, fair-trade gold and ethical gemstones to create pieces that are beautiful and kind. Lab-grown diamonds are also central to our commitment to a more sustainable future. Here the International Gem Society (IGS) explains how lab-grown diamonds compare to natural stones from a sustainability standpoint:
“By any definition, diamond mining isn't considered sustainable. There's a limited amount of this material in the Earth. Mining at current rates will one day deplete this resource. On the other hand, lab-created diamonds are far less limited… Producing diamonds in a lab is also far less damaging to ecosystems, wildlife, and human populations than mining diamonds. Most dramatically, lab-diamonds have less of an impact on their immediate surroundings than mined diamonds.”
Every aspect of our process is geared towards being more environmentally friendly, with the selection of materials and production to the finished design and its packaging given the eco seal of approval.
The process
We’re all about UK made, with the production of most of our pieces taking place in dedicated workshops in London and Essex. In the interests of transparency, we also make it no secret that we have an additional manufacturing partnership in Bali, which has been integral to the production process as we scale our brand.
Wherever your piece is produced however, you can rest assured that it has been handcrafted with attention to detail and the finest, most ethical and earth-friendly materials.
